Floriade 2007 – Aussie icons, myths & legends
Floriade, the largest flower festival in the Southern Hemisphere, takes on an Aussie flavour in 2007. Each spring, Canberra’s Commonwealth Park is transformed into a tapestry of colour with more than a million bulbs and annuals in bloom at this free festival. This year visitors can wander around flower beds inspired by the Aussie icons, myths and legends theme and enjoy good old Aussie entertainment, food and much more.
From 15 September until 14 October Commonwealth Park will come alive with daily entertainment, horticultural activities and festivities reflecting the Aussie icon theme. It all takes place against the backdrop of over one million blooms. Look forward to seeing great Aussie entertainers, live music each weekend and a dedicated children's festival day during the school holidays.
The 2007 Floriade garden beds are sure to delight visitors with their interpretations of some of Australia’s most recognisable icons, myths and legends. See great Australian inventions and brands, famous Australians, great Aussie landscapes, Australian sporting culture, our history and much more come to life in a riot of blossoming colour. This includes the mysterious Uluru, the much-loved Hills Hoist and the famed Dame Edna.
Kids will be entertained throughout Floriade with children’s arts and crafts and activities, and loads of extra entertainment every day of the school holidays.
During the month-long Floriade festival there will be plenty of activity at Canberra’s most popular tourist attractions. Follow the Aussie Icons Trail to see special exhibitions, treasures and displays that will highlight the Aussie icon theme through art, memorabilia, film, music and stories.
