Inverell Accommodation & Travel Information
INVERELL 690km N of Sydney
Sapphire City
Nestled in a picturesque valley beside the MacIntyre River, Inverell attracts visitors with its spectacular scenery, pleasant climate, country hospitality and impressive range of activities, including bushwalks, fishing and watersports.
Similar to other towns in the north west of NSW, Inverell was settled by Scottish immigrants who came here to grow crops and graze sheep and cattle on the fertile pastures. Mining has also been a staple of the area since the 1870s, and Inverell area has long been a source of much of the world’s sapphires. Fossicking for gems is now a major tourist industry. The Inverell district has also been producing wine grapes since early as 1849, and boasts some excellent wineries.
