Moree is the major town in an agricultural region noted for its rich black soil plains and artesian water. The region’s major crop is cotton but it also produces wheat and other cereals, cotton, oil seeds, pecan nuts and olives.
Moree is renowned for its hot artesian spa baths, a byproduct of the 850m bore sunk in 1895 for irrigation water. While its location on the banks of the Mehi River is a flood risk, it has also endowed the town with beautiful riverside parks and reserves.
