Situated on the Newell Highway and nestled on the banks of the Namoi River in north-west New South Wales, the Narrabri Shire is a rich agricultural district famed for its high quality cotton, wheat, beef, lamb and wool.The surrounding landscape of farms and endless plains is broken by the Namoi River valley and the majestic peaks of Mount Kaputar National Park. The town's name means 'forked waters', since it is here that the Namoi River, Narrabri Creek and Horse Arm Creek all converge.
