Sydney Arts & Entertainment
Sydney is home to one of the most recognisable buildings in the world, the Sydney Opera House, which stages about 3000 events and performances each year in its five venues.
Sydney is also a city of
museums, each with their own theme. The Museum of Sydney documents Sydney's convict-era history and the
Australian Museum has one the world's top five natural history collections. The Museum of Contemporary Art contains Australia's most important collection of this genre while the
Powerhouse Museum charts the history of the industrial age with hands-on displays. The
Australian National Maritime Museum is dedicated to Australia's maritime history.
The Art Gallery of New South Wales has a permanent exhibit of Australian Art including Aboriginal works displayed in the Yiribana Gallery, as well as a selection of European works from the Renaissance to the present.
