Tamworth is a thriving rural city located on the fertile agricultural plains of northern
New South Wales. Despite its 150-year history, fine old buildings, agricultural schools and claim to fame as the first Australian city with electric street lighting, it is best known as the Australian country music capital. Every January thousands of country music fans and performers flock to Tamworth for the Country Music Festival, a ten-day event which is counted as one of the top ten music festivals in the world.
Tamworth is also a prominent equestrian centre, with a $14 million Equine and Livestock Centre. Three of the national horse and rodeo associations are based here and regular rodeos, campdrafts and showjumping events are part of the busy equestrian calendar.
