Tenterfield Accommodation & Travel Information

TENTERFIELD  715km N of Sydney

Historic town on the Northern Tablelands

Tenterfield is known as the ‘Birthplace of the Nation’, since it was the Tenterfield School of Arts that was chosen by Sir Henry Parkes as the place to deliver his famous Federation Speech on 24th October 1889. The town is located in a particularly scenic area of the Northern Tablelands, with rugged mountains and rural landscapes, magnificent national parks and four distinct seasons – the area is renowned for its deciduous trees which create a colourful vista in Autumn. Tenterfield has retained its place as one of the country’s significant historical settlements through the careful preservation of many landmark buildings and sites.

  • Town Walk to view the heritage buildings and historic sites.
