Barney Beach is a popular beach that fringes the city of
Gladstone,
Queensland.
Beach goers and history buffs will enjoy Barney Beach. European settlers first came to Barney beach in 1847 so this pretty beach is considered to be the city’s birthplace by many. It is also the location of the Gladstone’s earliest grave, with historical plaques marking points of interest.
Barney Point provides barbecues, shelters and walking areas and a local park and is great for fishing. The beach itself is great for swimming, but be aware of stingers that come in with northerly winds. A swimming enclosure is in place at certain times of the year.
The nearby Lake Callemondah has several walking paths around the lake and a few nice spots to stop, relax, and watch the birdlife.
