Blackwater Coal Mine
- By joining a guided tour at the Blackwater Coal Mine, those interested in Mining history can see first hand where six million tonnes of coking coal is mined to be exported to Japan, Italy, the UK, Holland, France, Spain, Greece, Chile and many other countries. Up to four million tonnes of steaming coal mined is used for power generation within Queensland each year.
Lions Park
- Each flag at the Lions Park is representative of each of the 37 nationalities who laboured together in the mines and establishing the districts coal industry. It is recognised as the largest flag display in the world besides the United Nations building in New York
Japanese Garden
- Marking the relationship with Blackwater’s Sister Town Fujisawa, Japan, is the nationally known Japanese garden. It’s worth a look even if it is to marvel at the lushness of a garden in such dry and parched surroundings.
Blackdown Tableland National Park
- Lying to the south-west of the hamlet of Dingo, Central Queensland, is the 23 000-hectare Blackdown Tableland National Park was traditionally the home of the Ghungalu people, who left vivid reminders of their culture with rock art. Ascending abruptly above the surrounding parched plains, Blackland Tableland features gorges and waterfalls, dramatic sandstone cliffs, excellent bushwalks and tall open forests that provide a home for a variety of animals and plants, several found nowhere else.
- The Park has six major walks (all detailed in the During Shire Tourist Guide) including the Mimosa Creek Culture Circuit which passes the Aboriginal stencil art, the Rainbow Falls Walk, the Stony Creek Gorge Walk and the tracks around the Horseshoe Lookout and the park itself has excellent camping facilities.
