Boreen Point is a small town just north of
Tewantin, in the
Sunshine Coast,
Queensland, that overlooks the shores of beautiful Lake Cootharaba. Lake Cootharaba, which is a very large shallow lake popular for boating, sailing, crabbing and fishing is about 10km long and 5km wide and is part of the Noosa River system and the Great Sandy Region. It is very safe for children to swim in Lake Cootharaba, as the waters are shallow for a long way out.
Boreen Point is also the gateway to the upper Noosa River, the Everglades and the World Heritage nominated Cooloola National Park making it a major tourist spot for the local area. This is the area responsible for the shipwreck and the capture of Eliza Fraser. If you don’t know the story, make a point of finding it out when in Boreen Point.
Worth a visit is the Apollonian Hotel, a historic inn that was moved from
Gympie and rebuilt in Boreen Point. It is revered as one of Queensland’s oldest and finest 19th century hotels, set in three and a half acres with an authentic bush kitchen, restaurant, open fire places and wide cool verandas.
Everglades Tourist Park and Camping ground provide canoe hire and accommodation.
