'74 islands out of the blue'...so many beaches, you'll know you've found paradise. Visitor attractions in Bowen include the Bowen Historical Museum, which traces the history of the area through different displays. The museum's collection includes old newspapers, photographs and records of the early pioneers, as well as the relics of an ancient shipwreck. Adjacent to the museum is a slab cottage built in the area in 1873. It was moved to its present site slab by slab, and contains the appropriate period furniture and fittings. Swimming and prime quality snorkelling 20 metres off most of the town's beaches and secluded coves, including Queen's Beach, Grey's Bay, Rose Bay and Horseshoe Bay. There are also numerous walking tracks between the various coves and bays. Fishing, either from the rocks, beach or jetty, or with an ocean fishing charter. An interesting collection of murals, painted on various buildings around the town centre, depicts different phases in the Bowen's history. Bowen Visitor Information Centre is located 4km south of Bowen on the Bruce Highway.
