Enjoy being as active as you like or simply relax with a good book while you bask in the sun during a winter of content in Caloundra on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. There are plenty of great deals on offer during winter to keep you and your bank balance happy.
Midyear sparkles in Caloundra with sunshine and clear blue skies that are just perfect for a range of activities.
Enjoy a tranquil cruise on the Pumicestone Passage and learn all about this unique eco system that supports extensive marine life including turtles, dugong, dolphins, stingrays and birdlife. The area is recognised internationally for migratory wading birds. Get closer to the water on a Blue Water Kayak Tour or up the pace with an adventure tour with Caloundra Jet Ski.
Stroll along the Coastal Pathway that takes in many of Caloundra’s best views and vistas as well as historic sites. The Pathway connects Bulcock Beach with Kings Beach, Shelly Beach, Moffat Beach, Dicky Beach and Currimundi Beach and Lake. Further north the pathway extends along Kawana Beach then wraps around Point Cartwright where walkers are rewarded with views of the boats as they arrive and depart from Mooloolaba Harbour.
Just west of Caloundra explore the picturesque rolling green hills of the Blackall Range. Take a scenic drive to award winning restaurants and stop along the way to admire the magnificent heritage listed Glass House Mountains. Sample some of the tasty local dairy produce before a stroll through the art and craft galleries for which the region is renowned.
If you love a round of golf then tee off at the challenging Greg Norman-designed Club Pelican or other club courses like Caloundra and Beerwah.
Major attractions not to miss include Australia Zoo where you might catch a glimpse of Terri, Bindi or Robert and even if you don’t there is non stop hands on action happening all day. There’s also Aussie World and Australia’s most photographed pub - The Ettamogah Pub designed from a famous Aussie cartoon. After that drop into the Big Kart Track, the Queensland Air Museum or get a retail fix in the leafy main street of Caloundra or one of the major shopping centres dotted around town.
Check out the many activities and events that are happening in Caloundra. Two of the many popular events are the $A860,000 Caloundra Cup Carnival at
Sunshine Coast Turf Club over the weekend of 28/29 June, and the Caloundra Bowls Carnival from 21 July to 2 August. The recent launch of Caloundra’s new $6 million synthetic track at Sunshine Coast Turf Club means horses now race on a cushion track - the first of its kind in Australia.
