Carrara is located 11km from
Surfers Paradise on the southern bank of the Nerang River on the
Gold Coast,
Queensland. This suburb is most famous for being home of the Carrara Stadium – the purpose built Australian rules football ground and the Carrara Markets.
Originally part of the Manchester Cotton Company's cotton plantation established in the 1860s, the suburb is now reserved for golf courses, park lands and hot air balloon launch pads for locals and visitors. The name Carrara is thought to be derived from the Aboriginal word 'Karara' meaning 'long flat'.
