Clermont Travel Guide
Clermont accommodation, Clermont activities and attractions, Clermont maps, transportation to and around Clermont - the ALL NEW Jasons Clermont Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Clermont.
Clermont is one of Queensland's oldest tropical inland towns, surrounded by lush pasture and agricultural land. It was founded on gold, copper, cattle and sheep, but now also supports the production of wheat, sorghum, cotton, safflower, sunflowers and hardwood timber. Clermont's turbulent past saw goldfield riots and even a military takeover after a confrontation between striking sheep-shearers and non-union labour. In 1916, devastating floods caused the town to relocate to higher ground. The ‘piano in the tree’ is a reminder of the height of the floodwaters.
Today Clermont is known as the site of the largest seam of steaming coal in the world. The open-cut coal mining operation can be viewed at Blair Athol Coal Mine. Visitors will also find plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy including bowls, golf, horse racing and swimming. An important date on the events calendar is the Clermont Rodeo held in September each year.
