Coombabah, a suburb of the
Gold Coast,
Queensland, is home to the Pine Ridge Environmental Park and Coombabah Lake – two picturesque but very important environmental habitats that are worth exploring.
Coombabah Lake is a protected fish habitat which is recognised as some of the most important fish nursery areas of South East Queensland. There is a concrete jetty located at the northern end of the Esplanade next to the public boat ramp that provides opportunities for anglers to cast a line into Coombabah Creek.
Currumbin Pine Ridge Environmental Park is a 110 hectare site encompassed by the three suburbs of
Runaway Bay, Hollywell and Coombabah. It was declared an environmental park in1980 to preserve the only remaining example of natural dune vegetation that was once typical of the lowland regions of the Gold Coast.
Coombabah is an aboriginal word meaning home of turtles, or a pocket of land.
