Crows Nest lies in undulating countryside 45km north of
Toowoomba. Its position on the crest of the Great Dividing Range provides access to an area which has national parks, dams and waterholes, walking tracks, wildlife, historic hamlets and spectacular views.
The town is built around a large and attractive village green, features of which is a statue of Aborigine Jimmy Crow, after whom the town was named, and the nearby tree which served as his “Nest”. This hollow tree was his gunyah, where visiting teamsters called on Jimmy for information and directions. Today the town is a progressive centre for the surrounding beef and dairy industries, and is a relaxing stopover for visitors to the area’s many tourist attractions.
