Cunnamulla is the largest town in the Paroo Shire in far western
Queensland. The town came into existence as a coaching stop for Cobb and Co in 1879 and it is still linked to transport as the railway terminus for the line south from
Charleville.
Its success as a service centre for the huge grazing properties in this part of Queensland is mostly due to the continuous water supply from the broad Warrego River on which it stands. Visitors to Cunnamulla enjoy the old world charm of its pubs and stores, the boating and fishing opportunities and to fossick for opals at the Eulo and Yowan opal fields.
