Dunwich is a small township rich in history and culture, located on the western side of
North Stradbroke Island, on the
Gold Coast,
Queensland.
Dunwich is one of three towns on North Stradbroke Island, the others being
Amity Point and
Point Lookout. Stradbroke Island was once home to a large Aboriginal population, but by 1827 the first settlement had been established – Dunwich would be used as a convict outstation, Catholic mission, quarantine station, and benevolent institution in the coming years, but now it is a peaceful little town which serves to be the entry point for ferries and bages, with shops and facilities and an interesting cemetery.
