Johann Golttlieb Gross, who was a pioneer and early settler of Pimpma Island in the 1860’s named the area after his son, who found a well whilst hunting.
The area is the gateway to a large network of waterways and the Pacific Island via Jumpinpin Bar - fishing grounds well known to both amateur and professional fishermen.
There are a myriad of islands close by, where abundant fish varieties exist all year round. The southern end Moreton Bay and the Broadwater the area has a BBQ area and swimming enclosure which consists of 150m of netting suspending from floating pontoons.
