Mackay-Isaac is an unspoilt region of Australia that reflects the true Aussie lifestyle – laid back, relaxed and natural. From the beaches to the depths of the lush tropical rainforest, the whispering canefields to the rugged hinterland, you'll fall in love with the untouched beauty of our home.
Mackay's tropical city centre is a hive of colour and activity. It provides visitors with a varied experience few regional centres can boast – like good restaurants, bars, clubs and shopping. Dine al fresco at the impressive Mackay Marina overlooking the harbour.
Relax at one of the stunning thirty-one beaches or take a cruise and experience the islands of the Cumberland Group on our doorstep such as Brampton, Keswick and St Bees.
Make time to see some of the city's highlights such as the Bluewater Lagoon, Artspace, Botanical Gardens and the Promenade along the mighty blue Pioneer River.
The Mackay Region has several large National Parks pulsating with abundant wildlife easily reached from major highways. Eungella National Park (pronounced Young g'lah) is recognised as Australia's longest continuous stretch of subtropical rainforest and one of the most reliable places in the world to view a platypus in the wild! Finch Hatton Gorge is a perfect place to take a refreshing dip in the deep natural swimming holes, while Cape Hillsborough offers some great photo opportunities – like a wallaby on the beach at sunset!
Leave the Bruce Highway and delve deeper into Mackay's diverse hinterland. The 'Mining Trail', a self-drive route, will lead you through the picturesque and vibrant mining communities of Nebo, Clermont, Moranbah, Mount Britton and Dysart. On the way you'll see some of the great mines, awesome machinery and fine examples of our artistic and cultural heritage.
Enjoy some of Australia's best salt and freshwater fishing. Here in Mackay they're about as big as they come!
