North Stradbroke Island is one of the world's largest sand islands, positioned off the coast on the
Gold Coast,
Queensland. 'Straddie' has been the quintessential beach holiday destination for generations of Brisbanites. Every year hundreds of people swell the island’s population for day trips, weekend getaways, honeymoons or family holidays. The island is 38km long and 11km wide and accommodation ranges from luxury apartments to beach campsites.
The eastern side of the island is a long sweep of white sand beaches, perfect for surfing and fishing. There are protected bays and inland freshwater lakes for swimming, and offshore coral bommies for snorkellers and scuba divers. The island is accessed only by ferry from the mainland, making its peaceful isolation one of its greatest attractions.
