Ravenshoe Travel Guide

Ravenshoe accommodation, Ravenshoe activities and attractions, Ravenshoe maps, transportation to and around Ravenshoe - the ALL NEW Jasons Ravenshoe Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Ravenshoe.

Ravenshoe, in Tropical North Queensland is a lush region of mountain pastures and unspoiled World Heritage rainforest.  Located at the top of the Atherton Tableland, Ravenshoe also holds the title of being Queensland’s highest town at 930 metres.  Also known as the Cairns Highlands this area boasts wildlife, birds and attractions found no where else in Tropical North Queensland.

Ravenshoe has an interesting history filled with controversy and battles fought between lobby groups over environmental issues.  The town was founded by the timber industry when William Mazlin discovered vast stands of cedar there in 1881. For seventy years Ravenshoe relied on timber for its economic survival and its sawmills produced high quality rainforest timbers for markets in Australia and overseas but in 1987, the Federal Labour government allocated 900,000 hectares of rainforest around Ravenshoe for World Heritage Listing.
