Roma Travel Guide
Roma accommodation, Roma activities and attractions, Roma maps, transportation to and around Roma - the ALL NEW Jasons Roma Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Roma.
Roma is located at the junction of the Warrego and Carnarvon Highways in the heart of Queensland’s
Western Downs. Roma is characterised by its wide streets, wonderful heritage pubs and buildings, and its country town hospitality. Roma has the distinction of being the first gazetted settlement after Queensland separated from
New South Wales in 1859.
Roma was also the site of
Queensland’s first natural gas strike and the state’s first wine-making enterprise. For the locals and tourists though, Roma is most famous for the 1872 trial of Harry Redford, alias Captain Starlight, who duffed 1000 cattle but was caught. Roma's exciting history can be explored at the splendid $5 million Big Rig complex.
