Springbrook is stunning national park consisting mainly of eucalypt and rainforests located 78 km south of
Brisbane. Even though forestry was a thriving industry in the early 20th century around Springbrook, these days almost 3000ha of rainforest, open forest and montane heath are protected in by the World Heritage Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves. Water and volcanic activity have carved a spectacular landscape of cliffs, gorges and waterfalls for thousands of years around the Springbrook Plateau.
The park, which is part of a chain of mountains and forest remnants known as the “Scenic Rim” is revered for its sub tropical rainforest, waterfalls, birdlife, wildlife and awesome bushwalks to many lookouts that provide views of some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in
Queensland. Picnicing and bushwalking are popular in all three sections of Springbrook National Park (Springbrook Plateau, Natural Bridge and the Cougals). Springbrook is a birdwatchers dream - more than 100 bird species live in the park and rare and threatened animals like the Richmond birdwing rely on Springbrook’s forests for their survival. Ten percent of the plants in Springbrook are only found locally.
