Tamborine Mountain is a plateau 5km wide and 8km long rising 500m above the
Gold Coast hinterland, 30km to the east. The plateau is a spur of the McPherson Range and is the northernmost extent of the lava flow from Mount Warning Volcano.
The area has three picturesque communities surrounded by nine small national parks. These parks are referred to collectively as the Tamborine National Parks, and have gorges, spectacular waterfalls, walking tracks and magnificent views both inland and to the coast.
The townships of
Mount Tamborine,
North Tamborine and
Eagle Heights are popular for day trips from
Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with numerous art and craft galleries, teahouses, cafes and restaurants. The area is significantly cooler than the coastal plain, with bed and breakfast and guesthouse accommodation offering romantic log fires in winter.
