Tieri is a rugged little coal mining town about 80km north-east of Emerald in Central Queensland. Tieri came into existence in the early 1980’s to house the employees of the nearby Oaky Creek Coal Mine and exists today as one of the newest settlements in the Central West.
Close by are huge coal mine overburden heaps and the birdlife on Bundoora Dam is worth checking out if you are in the area. Tieri is a typical mining town which, as one cynic has quite famously observed, 'is just a high class camp where people come to make money and leave as soon as they've made enough'.
