Tweed Heads Travel Guide
Tweed Heads accommodation, Tweed Heads activities and attractions, Tweed Heads maps, transportation to and around Tweed Heads - the ALL NEW Jasons Tweed Heads Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Tweed Heads.
At the southern end of the
Gold Coast, with the Queensland-New South Wales border running through the main street, are the twin towns of
Coolangatta and Tweed Heads. Coolangatta has its own sheltered beach and nearby picnic area, and further south, Greenmount Beach has gentle surf where children can play safely. The airport, Australia's fifth busiest, is in Coolangatta, and at Tweed Heads is the Captain Cook Memorial Lighthouse with the latest laser beams. Along with the sun, sand and surf, the southern end of the Gold Coast has plenty of sporting amenities, clubs, accommodation and good shopping. Every second Sunday market stalls are set up along the beachfront, offering a selection of local handicrafts. Around Tweed Heads are some fantastic seafood restaurants serving fresh, local seafood, as well as shopping malls, and the lively entertainment complex Twin Towns.
While in Tweed Heads, walk out to Point Danger where you will be greeted by a large memorial for Captain Cook and fantastic views. The memorial marks the
New South Wales and
Queensland border divide, and you can actually stand in both states at the same time. Looking north you can see the Gold Coast in Queensland and looking south you can see along the Far North Coast coastline in New South Wales. You can also explore the picturesque Tweed River, where the wildlife is plentiful. Popular activities along the Tweed River include canoeing, fishing and kayaking. One option is to hire a boat to travel the river on your own for a relaxing day. To the south of Tweed Heads, you will find the Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre which has some interesting exhibitions and displays.
