Yuleba is a tiny rural service town which serves as the administrative centre for the Bendemere Shire, 60kms east of
Roma in
Western Downs Queensland.
Yuleba, originally established in 1878, was an important centre for some years when it was a railway terminus for the area to the west. In 1910 the line was extended to Roma and Yuleba declined in importance. Yuleba figures prominently in the history of the Cobb & Co. Coach Service with the last horse drawn coach in
Australia running from Yuleba to Surat in 1924.
Today Yuleba is a small but well equipped town. One of the main attractions in the area is the beautiful Judds lagoon with water lilies and a fascinating variety of bird life, and some Aboriginal rock wells which are believed to be hundreds of years old. Because of this, its makes sense that Yuleba is an aboriginal word meaning the place of water lilies. Yuleba's main industries are Beef, Cropping and in recent years also mining, since the opening of a Silicon Mine.
