Angaston is named after
Barossa Valley settler George Fife Angas, a wealthy London banker and merchant. Angas was a founder and chairman of the South Australian Company, which had started settlement of South Australia in 1836, and sponsored many of the valley's early German settlers.
High in the Barossa Ranges at the eastern end of the valley, Angaston has two beautiful parks, a small creek flowing through its centre and huge fig trees growing in the main street. Fine examples of colonial architecture are dotted throughout Angaston. Its main industries are wine and dried fruit, principally apricots and other stone fruit. Angaston boasts two of the Barossa's oldest wineries, and a dried fruit outlet.
