Clare Valley Travel Guide

Clare Valley accommodation, Clare Valley activities and attractions, Clare Valley maps, transportation to and around Clare Valley - the ALL NEW Jasons Clare Valley Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Clare Valley.

The Clare Valley is the state’s second most important grape growing area. Winemaking began here when Jesuit migrants from Austria settled in 1851. Today it is home to many small and sometimes idiosyncratic wine-makers who, every May since 1984, get together to create the famous Clare Gourmet Weekend. Synonymous with Riesling, the Clare Valley’s “Riesling Trail" links cellar doors and historic townships.

Some of the major attractions are the numerous historic buildings, particularly around Auburn, Mintaro (a declared heritage town), Watervale and the major centre of Clare. Further north is historic Burra which was settled by Cornish, Welsh, English and Scottish miners, and where visitors can now stay at the original miners' cottages.
