Towns and Places
- Kingscote is the main town on the island and has a small sandy beach and a tidal pool. Its attractions include the Ozone Seafront Hotel, opened in 1907, the Mulberry Tree, planted in 1837, Hope Cottage Museum, built in 1859, and the Kingscote Cemetery.
- Emu Bay is the island’s second largest holiday destination, it has a jetty and a 4km beach accessible by 4WD.
- Penneshaw is the ferry terminus, it has an excellent swimming beach and jetty and a Folk Museum in the old school house.
- D'Etsrees Bay is an ex-whaling station, and the location of several shipwrecks and a popular fishing and diving site.
Conservation and National Parks
- Flinders Chase National Park are Natural rock formations (Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch) and the Cape Borda Lighthouse and Maritime Museum.
- Stunning views and Vivonne Bay Wildlife Reserve with 40km of walking trails.
- Seal Bay Conservation Park
Home to seals and sea lions and the Little Sahara sand dunes, this natural haven can be explored by walkways or guided tours.

- Kelly Hills Conservation Park provides extensive walking trails and Kelly Hill Caves.
Natural Wonders
- American River provides big game fishing, swimming, boating and sailing.
- Parndana is a good central base from which to explore all parts of Kangaroo Island.
- There are 23 shipwrecks around the coastline, a number of which can be explored by experienced scuba divers on the Maritime Heritage Trail
- Cape Willoughby is the island's easternmost point, with excellent ocean views and Australia’s oldest lighthouse, built in 1852.
