  • Penola
    One of the oldest towns in the south-east, Penola is also the centre for the famous Coonawarra wine region, established in 1893.
  • Mount Gambier
    Midway between Adelaide and Melbourne, this major centre is located on the slopes of an extinct volcano with four crater lakes. The Blue Lake is 85m deep and turns an intense blue between November and March. There are also caves to explore, popular with cave divers, and terraced gardens at the Umpherston Sinkhole.
  • Naracoorte Caves Conservation Park
    Within this 600ha park there are 60 known caves, notably the World Heritage listed Victoria Cave which has remarkable fossil deposits.
  • Coorong National Park
    The Coorong and the adjoining Murray Lakes is a wetland of international importance at the mouth of the Murray River, 150km south-east of Adelaide. Historically there were five Aboriginal tribal groupings living on The Coorong and surrounding district and their descendants, known as the Ngarrindjeri people, still live here. Stone middens and fish traps remain as evidence of their earlier lifestyle, and their culture is preserved at a centre at Camp Coorong. The Coorong is home to the world’s largest breeding colony of pelicans, and it’s here that the movie Storm Boy was filmed.
  • Robe
    A pretty fishing port with a fascinating history, many old buildings, a swimming beach and rugged shoreline.
  • Canunda National Park
    Covering 9300ha, with giant shifting sand dunes, rugged coastal scenery, wombats, walking and 4WD trails. A major attraction is Cullens Bay Blowhole.
