At the southern end of the
Barossa Valley and an hour's drive from
Adelaide, Lyndoch is one of the oldest towns in South Australia. Lyndoch is located at the foot of the scenic Barossa Range, and is an ideal starting point for anyone wanting to explore the valley as there are a large number of wineries, most of which have cellar sales and tastings, within the immediate area.
Lyndoch was founded in 1837 by Surveyor General Colonel Light, who named the area Lynedoch Vale after his esteemed friend, Lord Lynedoch. Early industry was farm-oriented, and four flour mills operated. The Lyndoch area can claim to be the first place in the Barossa Valley where grapes were grown.
