Penfolds Magill Estate, only 8km from the city of Adelaide, is an historic journey through Penfolds excellence in winemaking since 1844. Be part of a 45min tour of the historical Magill Estate Winery and relive the grandeur of this world-renowned Australian establishment, followed by a tutored wine tasting of Penfolds premium wines. The Magill Estate Restaurant is located within the winery featuring a modern Australian style menu with an accent on fresh regional produce and the marriage of fine food with a comprehensive range of Penfolds wines. The winery is the base for Southcorp Wines' trading and distribution activities in South Australia and the Northern Territory. With over five hectares, Magill Estate vineyard produces Shiraz of very high quality for Penfolds only genuine single vineyard wine. The Magill Estate Shiraz is hand picked, crushed, fermented and matured on site. As the winery developed and expanded during the second half of the last century, key buildings such as the Spirit Bond Store, the Still House and the vintage underground cellars were built in local bluestone. These buildings have been restored and refurbished. The winery, or vintage cellar is still used for making Magill Estate Shiraz each year. The spectacular Still House, where brandy, mostly used for fortify port, was made until 1972, now serves as a tasting and cellar door sales outlet for winery visitors. The underground cellars are still used for barrel maturation of red wines. The Grange is a stone cottage, built for the Penfold family in 1845, a year after they arrived at Magill, has been restored and the exterior returned as closely as possible to its original state. The generally fragile condition of the interior has meant that access is limited
