Mount Pleasant Accommodation & Travel Information
Mount Pleasant is a tiny township located 55km north-east of Adelaide, the most southerly town in the Barossa before the Adelaide Hills. Mount Pleasant was settled by one of Adelaide's early settlers, James Phillis, in 1843, who planted a wheat crop, and then with the profits bought a flock of romney marsh sheep. Over the years he became one of the Mount Pleasant district's most prosperous and successful farmers.
Gold was found in the Mount Pleasant district in the 1860s but the deposits were small and the miners soon moved on. The town became a small service centre for the surrounding region, and today is a pleasant stop on the wine trail, with accommodation, eateries and art and craft galleries. The main street, Melrose Street, is lined with beautiful plane trees.
Take a travel holiday to Mount Pleasant and visit the most southerly town in the Barossa.
