Seppeltsfield Travel Guide

Seppeltsfield accommodation, Seppeltsfield activities and attractions, Seppeltsfield maps, transportation to and around Seppeltsfield - the ALL NEW Jasons Seppeltsfield Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Seppeltsfield.

Seppeltsfield is a unique, historic showpiece of Australia's wine industry. It is one of the most impressive wineries in the Barossa Valley, a complex of 19th century stone winery buildings (turret-like with a faintly mediaeval air), wine vats and gracious homes set in extensive gardens. The rows of date palms lining the road were planted to provide work during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Halfway to the winery, the Seppelt family mausoleum sits on a hill which provides wonderful views over Seppeltsfield.

The Seppeltsfield estate was founded in 1851 when Joseph Seppelt, a wealthy merchant, arrived from Silesia with his workers. He turned to wine making when his tobacco crop failed. His son, Oscar Benno Pedro Seppelt, greatly expanded the business so that it has become one of Australia's leading wine producers, having everything from a port-maturation cellar to a distillery, vinegar factory and brandy bond store. All have been preserved in their original condition.
