There are many exciting festivals and events held in South Australia throughout the year.

January
  • Jacobs Creek Tour Down Under. An international road cycling event featuring some of the top teams from the major European road races.

  • Milang Goolwa Freshwater Classic. Australia's largest freshwater yacht race.
  • Rotary Art Show. The Annual Art Show is held in Warland Reserve at Victor Harbor in a large marquee. Features over 350 artists, 1400 paintings, all for sale.
February
  • Carnevale. A taste of Italy in Rymill Park is an opportunity for South Australia's Italian community to share its wonderful vibrant culture and traditions with the rest of the community.
  • Flickerfest. Australia's premier short film festival, held at Adelaide's Mercury Cinema, presents an impressive program of the best short films from Australia and around the world.
  • Big River Fishing Competition. Fishing enthusiasts line the Murray River in search of the big catch.
  • Compass Cup. Australia's only cow race, held at Mount Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula, raising funds for variety clubs and community groups.
  • Kangaroo Island Cup Carnival and Street Fair. A country race meeting, tours of the Island, street party, fresh seafood and local wines throughout the three days.
February/ March
  • Adelaide Festival and Fringe Festival. Held every two years, the Adelaide Festival is the largest arts festival in Australia and the second largest fringe festival in the world, featuring performances and exhibitions of some of the finest independent artists from around Australia and overseas.
March
  • Brighton Jetty Festival. A day of fun, food, wine, arts, crafts and free family entertainment. There is something for everyone from the young to the young at heart.
  • Glendi. An annual Greek festival with local artists, dancing, food and family fun.
  • South Australia Wooden Boat Festival. Sailing and motor boat displays, races for all types of craft and rough and ready boat building combine with steam launches and nautical music and displays to create a maritime festival.
  • Fleurieu Fishin' Fest. Fishing from boat, jetty or foreshore, with $10,000 in prize money.
March/April
  • The Port Pirie Pura Light Start Masters Games. Many different events in 33 sports providing both social interaction and the opportunity to compete in a wide range of sporting programs being held under one event.
April
  • Laura Folk Fair. Annual two-day regional music and craft festival held the first weekend in April. Over one hundred arts, crafts, hobby, food and refreshment stalls, with entertainment including various bands and solo artists.
  • Oakbank Easter Horse Racing Carnival. The largest horseracing event in the Southern Hemisphere with a variety of side shows including pony and camel rides, fashion parades, musical entertainment and log chopping.
  • Easter Show Jumping Festival. Show jumping competition attracting top local and interstate junior and senior show jump riders, held at Mount Gambier.
  • Barossa Vintage Festival. Australia's foremost vintage festival, celebrating the Barossa's wine, food, heritage and culture.
May
  • Adelaide Hills Harvest Festival. An extravaganza of superb local food, wine, arts and entertainment.
  • Kernewek Lowender. A traditional family festival and the world's largest Cornish festival, held on the Copper Coast.
  • Adelaide Cup Carnival. A two-week carnival staged at Morphettville Racecourse, reaching its pinnacle with the running of the Smokefree Adelaide Cup.
  • Oodnadatta Races. A community gathering for one of the oldest Outback picnic race meetings in South Australia.
  • Penola Festival. A contemporary celebration of the literary and arts heritage of the South East's oldest town.
  • Mannum Houseboat Open Days. The Houseboat Hirer's Association and Mid Murray Council's annual Houseboat Open Days at Mannum.
June
  • Riverland Country Music Festival. A week-long country music festival held at Barmera, with indoor and outdoor events and featuring a range of music from traditional to country rock plus poetry.
  • Adelaide Cabaret Festival. For two weeks in June, the Adelaide Festival Centre is transformed into the home of cabaret with traditional, classic and contemporary performances.

July
  • Adelaide Festival of Ideas. Adelaide hosts a gathering of renowned Australian and international intellectuals for a four-day festival to explore new ideas, developments and thinking across a broad range of human endeavours. A stimulating series of individual presentations and panel discussions will be held in a range of venues along North Terrace.
August
  • Bay to Birdwood Classic. The South Australian Water Bay to Birdwood Classic is the sister event to the Bay to Birdwood Run and has been held biennially since 1999. Vehicles built after 1945, more than 30 years old and substantially to manufacturers specifications are eligible to take part.
  • South Australian Living Artists Week. Held at the Adelaide Art Gallery, SALA celebrates the talent and imagination of more than 400 artists living and working in South Australia.
  • Collectors Hobbies and Antiques Fair. An annual festival of displays, arts, collectibles and antiques in four town halls around Strathalbyn on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
September
  • Royal Adelaide Show. South Australia's largest entertainment event, held at the Royal Adelaide Show Grounds.
  • City to Bay Fun Run. A 12km course through Adelaide to a day of activities on the Glenelg foreshore.
  • Bay to Birdwood Run. One of the world's historic motoring events, featuring vehicles manufactured before January 1950. The biennial event attracts a cavalcade of more than 1600 vintage vehicles for the run from West Beach to Birdwood.
October
  • Tasting Australia. International epicureans gather to savor the best of what Australian chefs and vignerons have to offer the world. A week of food, wine and music happenings, coinciding with the International Barossa Music Festival and the Glenelg Jazz Festival both held annually during October.
  • Classic Adelaide. A unique special-stage rally for historic sports and rally cars competing on public roads close to the city, attracting Australian and international drivers.
November
  • Credit Union Christmas Pageant. First held in 1933, this Adelaide tradition is regarded as one of the world's great pageants, with thousands of locals lining the 3.3km city street route to watch the parade, involving festive and fairytale floats, marching bands, walking sets and over 900 costumed characters.
  • Feast – Adelaide's Lesbian and Gay Cultural Festival, established in 1997 and now a major Australian festival and one of the top three gay and lesbian events in Australia.
December
  • Carols by Candlelight. Thousands of families enjoy well-known artists performing Christmas carols at Adelaide's Elder Park.
  • Christmas in the City. Each Friday and Saturday night until Christmas, you’ll see live family entertainment under the spectacular Tree of Light in Victoria Square.
  • Bay Sports Festival. The second largest sports festival in Australia includes all levels of sporting competition and the famous Bay Sheffield Footrace.
  • Tripolis Yacht Race. An annual sailing event held in the Spencer Gulf.
  • South Australia Day. The banks of the River Torrens come alive with entertainment.
  • New Year's Eve Street Party. Free party event for all, hosted by the Adelaide City Council, with entertainment, multicultural and gourmet food, and a fireworks spectacular.
