Beauty Point is situated on Port Dalrymple opposite George Town at the mouth of the Tamar River and in the heart of a rich sheep, cattle and vineyard district. This tiny township was originally established as the first deep-water port on the Tamar River servicing Beaconsfield which, as a result of the gold boom, was the third largest town in Tasmania. The original Beauty Point wharf, where the first deep-water vessels arrived, is now the site of the Australian Maritime College which houses students who take courses in seamanship and fishing. The college has two training vessels. Today the town is best known as the home of Seahorse World, the state’s newest aquaculture venture for breeding seahorses.
