Evandale has the distinction of being one of the best preserved towns in Australia. Its distinctive late Georgian and early Victorian-era buildings, dating from 1809, have been classified by the National Trust. It is best known however as the venue for the National Penny Farthing Championship, held on the last weekend in February each year. The event is held in conjunction with the Village Fair when townspeople and visitors dress in period costume. Evandale is rich in historic associations that include bushranger Martin Cash and renowned Australian landscape artist John Glover. The town is full of antique and craft shops and hosts Tassie's largest Sunday market.
