Jutting into the sea on Tasmania’s mid east coast is the rugged and beautiful Freycinet Peninsula. Its spectacular panoramas, abundant wildlife and a wealth of outdoor activities make this 10,000ha national park one of the favourites in
Tasmania. The pink granite of The Hazards forms a magnificent backdrop to the pristine stretch of Wineglass Bay – one of the most photographed spots in the state.

The southern part of the peninsula is dominated by 620m Mount Freycinet. Large shell middens are relics of its occupation by Aborigines long before it was named in 1802 by French explorer Nicholas Baudin. Most of the park is coastal heathland, brilliant with wildflowers in spring and home to some endangered wildlife species and thousands of birds.
