Geeveston is the gateway to the Hartz Mountains National Park, the Arve Valley and the Tahune Forest Reserve. An easy 20-minute drive from Huonville, it is a base for the region's timber industry, which is based around the productive eucalypt and rain forests in the rugged hinterland.
In the unique Tahune Forest Reserve, visitors can have a treetop introduction to the forest environment via the Tahune Forest Airwalk, which showcases the best environmental practices in multiple-use forests, and features a stunning view of the confluence of the Huon and Picton Rivers. This $4.3 million canopy walk is 570m long and 25-45m high with observation bays and rest areas, barbeque facilities and disabled access. The Visitor Centre has a 60-seat restaurant featuring the best of local food and wine.

- Visit the Geeveston Forest and Heritage Centre. Located on Church Street, this centre explains the history of the region, has demonstrations of wood-turning and other craft skills, descriptions of the wildlife in the nearby forests and gift shop featuring quality locally crafted timber. It is also an important focus for visitors wishing to participate in interpreted forest walks in the Arve Valley area, and a ticket outlet for the Tahune Forest Airwalk. Open daily.
- Get out and about on a forest walk - Keogh's Creek, West Creek Lookout, Big Tree and Zig Zag, the four hour return walk to Hartz Peak, and the Huon Pine walk at Tahune Forest Reserve, which has numerous lookouts and information signs.
- Have a picnic at the Arve River Picnic Area, 13km from Geeveston.
- Go rock climbing in the Hartz Mountains, and fishing, rafting and camping in the Tahune Forest Reserve.
