Gowrie Park was the site of the township that housed the workers of the Mersey–Forth Hydro Electricity Scheme and their families. It is still possible to walk on the paved streets. It is now the home of the longest mural in the Southern Hemisphere, depicting the development of the scheme from wilderness to its completion in the 1960s. There is both cabin and backpacker accommodation here as well as a restaurant with its own murals, and some items of pioneer farming equipment ranging from horse drawn to early trucks.
