Huonville is the hub of the famous Huon Valley apple and pear region. Just 38km south west of
Hobart, Huonville is named after French sea captain Huon Kermandec who, with Rear Admiral Bruni D’Entrecasteaux, explored the region in 1792. His name was also given to the Huon pine rainforest timber unique to
Tasmania’s temperate rainforests. Today Huonville is a busy commercial centre serving the three nearby townships and the Huon Valley orchards. The region is also noted for cherries and stonefruit with roadside stalls and pick-your-own orchards, also for its thriving mushroom industry, boutique wine cellar doors, fine eateries and charming accommodation.
