Maydena is located on a spectacularly scenic stretch of mountain highway beside the Tyenna River. It is the last petrol stop for tourists travelling to the wilderness areas of Southwest National Park and Lakes Pedder and Gordon, and is also the perfect place from which to access Mount Field National Park, the Junee Cave State Reserve and the Styx Valley Tall Trees Reserve. A major tourist attraction, the ‘Maydena Hauler’, is currently being developed by Forestry Tasmania. Completed in late 2007, it provides spectacular views of the surrounding area.
