Mount Field National Park Travel Guide

Mount Field National Park accommodation, Mount Field National Park activities and attractions, Mount Field National Park maps, transportation to and around Mount Field National Park - the ALL NEW Jasons Mount Field National Park Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Mount Field National Park.

Russell Falls © Tourism Tasmania and Geoff MurrayMount Field is Tasmania’s oldest national park – the 300 acres around Russell Falls were first proclaimed a reserve in 1885. It is also one of the prettiest, with a great variety of scenery from low level rainforest to high altitude moorlands, mountain ranges, waterfalls and beautiful lakes; and is one of the most visited. The park has something for everyone – gentle walks to strenuous overnight hiking, wildlife spotting and even skiing in winter. There are essentially two visitor sections. The first, near the park entrance, includes a large picnic area and the famous Russell Falls. Stunning walks through enormous fern forests and some of the tallest trees in the world are available in this area. One of these, the Tall Trees Walk, is a 900m boardwalk with signs detailing the history of these 45m giant swamp gums. The second visitor section is centred at Lake Dobson and includes the long day walks and skiing areas. Dramatic mountain scenery and alpine plant communities are features of the more elevated parts of the park.
