  • Bruny Island

There is good swimming at Barnes Bay on North Bruny and picnic and barbecue facilities at Dennes Point Beach. Bruny Island lighthouse is the second oldest lighthouse in Australia.
  • Hastings Caves and Thermal Pool
    Located near Dover, this area has one of the world’s great dolomite caves with vast chambers which began to form over 40 million years ago. The thermal pool at the same site is a delightful place to picnic and swim, being a constant 28 degrees C all year round.

    Deep in the heart of the Tahune Forest Reserve, the Tahune Airwalk takes you through the forest canopy, 37m above ground.

  • Royal Tasmanian Botanic Gardens
    Established in 1818, the 13.5ha features Australia’s widest collection of temperate climate plants, and includes the Botanical Discovery Centre and the Macquarie Island Sub-Antarctic House.
  • The Theatre Royal
    Australia’s oldest theatre, opened in 1837.
  • Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery
    This 1863 building is home to a fine collection of early prints and paintings of Tasmnia, Aboriginal artefacts and botanical displays.
  • Risdon Cove Historic Site

  • Panoramic views from Mt Wellington
    The viewing station at the summit is accessed by road (sometimes closed by snowfalls). There are many walking trails through Wellington Park.

  • Port Arthur Historic Site
    A picturesque and peaceful 40ha area with restored sandstone ruins of the convict prison buildings including the lunatic asylum, the penitentiary, the model prison and the church. The site also hosts nightly ghost tours and a sound and light show.
  • The Convict Trail

  • The Tasman Coastal Track
    Starting at Pirates Bay, the track takes walkers south on a spectacular clifftop oddysey – skirting the edge of 300m sea crags. The full track is a long day’s walk to Fortescue Bay, but there are excellent short and easy walks from the road end at Eaglehawk Neck to Tasman Arch, Waterfall Bay and Paterson’s Arch.
