Tarraleah Travel Guide

Tarraleah accommodation, Tarraleah activities and attractions, Tarraleah maps, transportation to and around Tarraleah - the ALL NEW Jasons Tarraleah Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Tarraleah.

Tarraleah is located in the mountains between Hobart and Queenstown, custom-built by 'The Hydro' as the settlement to service one of its facilities. Now people stop at Tarraleah for its unique hospitality and accommodation and to view the huge hydro-electric pipes. The average length of the six steel penstocks is 584m, and the views of these massive pipes as they tumble down the side of the mountain are spectacular. A feature of Tarraleah is the Tarraleah Chalet, which was designed and built as a showpiece for the town by the Tasmanian HEC in 1936-37, at a cost of £8,271 ($16,500).
