Located on the Bass Highway in the central north of
Tasmania, Westbury is a classified historic town surrounded by beautiful countryside. Settled in the 1820s, Westbury retains a 19th century ambience with a famous village green that is used for fetes and other celebrations, including the autumn Maypole Festival and Morris dancing. The town’s English appearance is enhanced by its fine colonial buildings, tree-lined streets, courtyards, stables and elegant inns. It was originally planned as a stop-over on the route from
Hobart to the north-west coast which, at the time, was being opened up by the Van Diemen's Land Company.
