  • The National Wool Museum, with three separate galleries housed in a historic 1872 bluestone wool store. The museum focuses on the history, politics and heritage of the wool industry, with demonstrations, re-creations of a shearing shed, displays and machinery. Open daily 10am-5pm.
  • Numerous heritage buildings, with more than 100 classified by the National Trust, including Merchiston Hall (1856), Osborne House (1858), Corio Villa (1856), The Heights (1855) and Barwon Grange (1855). Christ Church in Moorabool Street, is the oldest Anglican church in Victoria still in use.
  • Geelong Naval and Maritime Museum, an extensive collection of maritime memorabilia including three large-scale model ships, housed in the former stables of Osborne House, one of Geelong's grandest historic homesteads. Open every day except Tuesday and Thursday, 10am-4pm.
  • An extensive collection of mainly Australian artworks, sculptures and artifacts at the Geelong Art Gallery in Little Malop Street. Open weekdays 10am-5pm, weekends and public holidays 1-5pm.
  • The Botanic Gardens, magnificent landscaped gardens planted in 1858 surrounded by shaded parklands and overlooking Corio Bay. Within the grounds is the Old Customs House, a tiny cottage said to be the oldest timber building in Victoria, which contains historic displays of the days when it was used as a telegraph station.
  • Picnics or exercising in Geelong's numerous parks and gardens, including Eastern Park, Rippleside Park, Queens Park and Johnstone Park. Belmont Common is a large tract of parkland beside the Barwon River which also contains the Barwon Valley Public Golf Course, a riding club, a rifle club and various sports ovals.
  • Bird watching at Balyang Bird Sanctuary, an 8ha bird reserve with central lake, and at the wetland reserve off Barwon Heads Road, maintained by the Geelong Field Naturalists Club and home to over 100 species of birdlife.
  • Waterworld and Splashdown, swimming complexes with water slides, pools, gym, spa and sauna facilities.
  • Wine tastings and sales at the region's boutique wineries, noted for their pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon wines.
