The Grampian Mountains, in the far south west of Victoria, were named by Scottish explorer Major Mitchell in 1836 and soon after were settled by graziers, gold miners and loggers. Extending more than 80km in length and 50km at their widest part, the Grampians are a series of mountain ranges which form the end of Australia's Great Dividing Range. These mountains make up the centrepiece of the Grampians National Park, famous for its imposing scenery, wildflowers and Koori rock art.
As the main town in the area, Halls Gap is a popular base for many outdoor activities, including camping, walking, rock climbing and abseiling.
